Description
A bust of Jesus Christ with the crown of thorns placed on His head by Roman soldiers, mocking declaring “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Despite how deprived and inglorious the image of the Crown of Thorns (or the Cross) seems to many, this powerful image of Christ submitting Himself to the lowest, most piercing form of adornment reveals His kingship over all creation with even greater redeeming force. Christ has made that suffering present from the Fall of Adam and Eve, in the thorns which surrounded the Garden of Eden, His crown. Even as, in the Old Testament, the Lord appeared to Moses from a burning thorn bush, the thorns of suffering and persecution acknowledge Christ as King. Unlike any other crown, this crown shows Jesus to be King of glory and suffering together, and that the whole universe bows to Him as the “King of kings and Lord of lords.” Rev 19:16 (NIV).
On this exquisite piece of meticulously carved olive wood, the unique woodgrain on each piece echoes the blood stains on His face and hair from this act of scorn. The face is carefully sculpted with the tender and patient emotions of Christ enduring the piercings for the sake of redeeming humanity. The hair is chiseled, even on the smallest bust, to display the most realistic presentation of Christ possible. Each piece is one of a kind. Offered with permission and in partnership with Jimmy’s Bazaar in Jerusalem, Israel.
